The cord blood banks are the facility wherein the cord blood cells are preserved for future use. These are banks which are especially designed for preserving the cord blood cells taken from newborn child or from an adult. Another form of cord blood banks are Private Banks. These banks also store the cord blood from donor but with a link to its identity. They store complete information of donor and its family. A nominal amount of fees is charged by private banks for storing samples of cord blood collected. The fee is utilized by them for preserving the harvested blood for biological insurance.
Cord blood cells can be stored by donors depending on their wish. The only difference between these two types of banks lies to linking of identity of donor. Although, it is true that cord blood stem cells can be taken from an adult donor as well but it may not be as effectual as extracted from umbilical cord of newborn child.
